Food Service Operations
The purpose of the Food Service Operations is to serve and provide for the nutritional needs of all county inmates and ICE detainees in the Etowah County Detention Center.
Mission
The mission of the Food Service Operations is to:
- Provide for the nutritional needs of all inmates and detainees
- Follow strict procedures for special medical and religious diets
- Always be prepared for inspections
- All Federal, State, and County laws must be followed to fidelity
Training
- Serv-Safe Certified
- Jail School training to all Deputies of Etowah County Detention Center
- Yearly training required to retain certification of jail school training
Inmate Kitchen Workers
- Must be cleared through Administration (Certain charges disqualify eligibility)
- Medical clearance must be obtained prior to service
- Training provided over several days or weeks
- Responsibilities include the scheduling, preparation, and serving of all meals
- All Federal, State, and County laws must be followed to fidelity
Meal Information
- Meals are created to meet the diverse population of all inmates
- Meals are Certified Dietician approved
- Special diets are accommodated for religious and medical reasons
Inspections
- Inspected by State of Alabama quarterly
- Inspected by federal ICE Inspectors weekly
- Inspected by the American Correctional Association
Statistics
- Approximately eight hundred meals served three times a day
- Approximately twenty four hundred meals served a day
- Approximately sixteen thousand meals served in a week
- Approximately sixty four thousand meals served in a month
